The below websites were chosen for their focus on the Holocaust. They are listed in alphabetical order and offer general information on the Holocaust and WWII, stories from survivors and rescuers, images,  audio, videos, and interactive maps. Remember sites that contain images may be graphic. I have tried to put up a warning for each site this may pertain to.


Anne Frank Center

Description: The Anne Frank Center was created to promote universal tolerance through the legacy of Anne Frank. Information can be found on Anne Frank via a timeline, scrapbook, and excerpts form her diary. Be sure to check out the Student Study Materials page for information that can be downloaded and printed.

Children of the Holocaust

Description: This site recounts the story of three child survivors. The three stories paint a picture of how rough life was, even for children. Each story is different; Lili was sent to hide in a filthy and insect infested orphanage, Krystyna and her family hid among the sewers for 14-months, and Alexander witnessed the Nazi's executing Jews. While each story tells a different aspect, they all speak volumes about what it took to survive.

The Holocaust (Jewish Virtual Library)

Description:  This site is created but the Jewish Virtual Library. It has an array of different articles on the Holocaust arranged in alphabetical order. Most articles are short and easy to read. Pictures and maps are rarely displayed with articles, however, there is a separate page for both. As a warning, some pictures can be graphic. Good site to gather information and the organization makes it easy to find all information on a topic.They also included a nice  Chronology/Timeline Of Jewish Persecution and Glossary.


Holocaust Cybrary

Description: This site's focus is to remember the survivors.  It contains interviews with  survivors, stories of rescues, and virtual exhibits/tours of some of the camps. It also has photos and audio interviews. In valuable resource in remembering the Holocaust.


Holocaust History Project

Description: This website contains documents, photographs, recordings, and essays regarding the Holocaust, including direct refutation of Holocaust-denial. This is a great place to look for suggestions on how to start your research. Most essays give a brief rundown of the topic and then list suggested readings on where to continue research. They even have articles dedicated on ways to find survivors and victims and suggested paper topics one could use.

Holocaust Memorial Center

Description: The Holocaust Memorial Center in located in Michigan and contains exhibits that are open to the public. The site gives information about the museum, but it also has virtual exhibits, oral histories, and information about the Holocaust. If you live close to the museum, it may worth checking out the programs and events to see what they are currently offering.

Holocaust Survivors

Description: This site contains the stories of 6 survivors. It retells their time during the war, how they survived and their life after. It's a good place to read first hand accounts of what life could be like. They also have a gallery of pictures and audio clips of the survivors telling their stories.


Holocaust Timeline (The History Place)

Description: A timeline created by the History Place covering from 1933 to 1961. This is a great site to go to grab important events and their dates. Some events along the timeline are linked to additional information. The extra pages include important details such as photos or reports.


Interactive Map of Auschwitz (BBC)

Description: An interactive map created by BBC/Ash Luecker Ltd. It explores the evolution of Auschwitz as it became one of the most feared concentration camps. It explores both Auschwitz and Birkenau and important buildings in each one. Photos are included as well; as a general warning some photos are graphic. This site is a great way to explore and develop a deeper understanding for concentration camps.

 

Louisiana Holocaust Survivors

Description: Ten Louisiana survivors tell their stories in interviews by Plater Robinson, a Holocaust Education Specialist. The interviews retell their accounts during the war. There are audio excerpts that you can listen to as well. Another good site to view when gathering stories from survivors


The Nizkor Project

Description: This website is dedicated to collecting information to use against those who deny the Holocaust. It contains many articles on a range of topics that include people, organizations, places, and concentration camps. Most articles are short and easy to read. There are some pictures, but it is mainly text driven.


Righteous Gentiles

Description: The penalty for aiding or hiding a Jew was your life. Yet over 11,000 risked their lives to do so during the Holocaust. Those who did so were called Righteous Gentiles.  This website gives the profile and oral history of just 10 of those rescues, all from Poland. A good site to hear the stories of rescuers who helped the Jews survive.


Simon Wesenthal Center, Museum of Tolerance

Description: An interactive website where you can explore information about the Holocaust. It gives you several different links to explore additional resources. It contains text and picture resources on the Holocaust and WWII. Topics can be found on areas like Jews, Nazis, and the World's Response and include information on key places, people, and organizations. Be sure to explore both the Multimedia Learning Center and Virtual Exhibits

United States Holocaust Memorial Museum

Description:  A good site for summary information on the Holocaust and for research. It is loaded with many different topics that include photos, maps, and interviews. Does include an area just for Students that link you to important articles. Be sure to also check out the Collections/Online Exhibits and the Steven Speilberg Video/Film Archive

Yad Vashem

Description: Yad Vashem is the Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Authority. The Resource Center provides in-depth information about the Holocaust that can help further research along. This area contains original documents, photos, letters and diary entries, and maps. They also have Virtual Exhibits that cover a variety of topics such as women in the Holocaust and an Auschwitz Photo Album.
